WATCH: Friday Night Frenzy (Week 2, 2023)
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - In the Wyoming News Now Game of the Week, 4A #5 Central made the trek back up I-25 for a showdown with #4 Natrona.
After a slip up on the kick return, the Indians were pinned on their own 2 yard line, and it only took a couple of plays for Natrona to capitalize. Noah Sides delivered a huge hit to froce a fumble, and the Mustangs recovered. Trig Berens would sneak it in a couple plays later to get the Mustangs up. Defense was the name of this one, this time Tucker Sides would find a strip, and Timothy Edmonson would take it all the way back to the house to put Natrona up 14. Central got their revenge, after a huge run by Mason Counter, it set up Miles Porwoll to sneak it in himself. After two Central field goals, the Mustangs would end up icing the game with a minute left and won 14-13.
The Glenrock Herders were looking to get their first win of the season facing off against the Tongue River Eagles. The Eagles wasted no time scoring as Colter Hanft, bulldozered his way through three Herder defenders for the first touchdown of the game. Miscommunication on the Herders offensive line, lead to two safeties in the game, and the Eagles never looked back. Scoring at will, with Alex Barker having three touchdowns in the first half alone, one coming from a pick-six. The score was 45 – 0 at the end of the half, with the final score being 59 – 7.
In a battle of two winless 4A teams Kelly Walsh High School beat South High School 32-10. Landon Walker stood out for The Trojans the Junior scored Kelly Walsh’s first three touchdowns. For the Bison Osayas Garcia found Gabe Hernandez for a long touchdown pass, Hernandez fought through a defender to get to the goal line. As for those other three South High points, they came in record breaking fashion. Keelan Anderson hit a 57-yard field goal. That broke his school record of 53-yards he set two weeks ago and tied the state record.
Across town, East hosted a top three 4A team for the second week in a row. This time Thunder Basin came to Okie Blanchard, but suffered a similar fate to the T-Birds previous two opponents. By halftime, the score was 52-0-- allowing East to rest their starters in the second half. In the first two quarters, quarterback Cam Hayes racked up six touchdowns (five passing, one rushing). Nathan Mirich and Drew Jackson were on the receiving end of two scores apiece, with Jackson adding a rushing touchdown as well. The Bolts ultimately found the scoreboard after halftime, but it was still a lopsided 52-7 victory for the state’s number one team.
