Behind the Numbers: Shae Suiaunoa makes a statement
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Shae Suiaunoa made a huge statement in his development as a deffensive player in Wyoming’s win over Texas Tech.
Last Season Suiaunoa was second on the team in tackles but he also lead The Cowboys in missed tackles, something he and his coaches worked on a lot in the offseason.
Suiaunoa got off to a great start against a great opponent recording 12 tackles, one short of his career high. One of those tackles was for a loss and he deflected a pass in the critical late stages of the game.
“We were dissapointed in his tackling last year being in the right place, wouldn’t wrap up,” Head coach, Craig Bohl, said. “He missed the Spring so we were concerned about that, but, he came back in fall camp and had done much better in body position and I don’t know how many tackles he had tonight (Saturday), but I didn’t see him miss very many.“
” I just trusted our coaches with the tackling techniques we used this past fall,” Suiaunoa said. “I really just tuned into that. I just wanted to be a lot different than last year, I didn’t really like last year’s performance too much but I’m here now.”
Suiaunoa should have a chance to get plenty more tackles against FCS opponent Portland State this Saturday.
