CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Pine Bluffs had a big time showdown to open up their season last Thursday, as Shoshoni came to town for a rematch of the 2022 1A 9-Man state championship.

The Hornets cruised to a 36-12 victory, and a massive chunk of that offensive production was courtesy of running back Ryan Mohren. Mohren said a showing like that doesn’t happen without the play of his big boys up front.

”My linemen man, they’re great. They know how to push people back, make some great holes, and make so much space for me to just keep going,” Mohren said.

He was humble in giving credit to the guys blocking for him, but the statline speaks for itself. Mohren rushed the ball 17 times for 207 yards--an average of almost 12.2 yards per carry-- and three touchdowns. He consistently moved the chains for Pine Bluffs, and showed his combination of power, elusiveness and breakaway speed on the touchdowns. His first was a one yard punch in through the trenches, the second he shook free on a 31 yard score, and the final TD was the exclamation point on his afternoon-- Mohren took it 74 yards to the house to help the Hornets pull away in the second half.

Lost in the eye popping offensive numbers is the significant impact he also made on defense. Mohren was second on the team with 10.5 tackles-- including a sack-- in a game where they didn’t allow a point in the second half.

While the performance on the field was spectacular, Mohren takes the most pride in his leadership.

”I’ve always wanted to be a leader. I’ve always wanted to be a person that the young kids look up to. It just feels great knowing that there are people who look up to me and there are people who reflect on the things that I do,” Mohren said.

Congratulations to Ryan Mohren for starting his season off with a bang.
