CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The first day of school for the Natrona County School District is Monday, August 28. For some students, this will be their first time in the classroom. To help them prepare, NCSD held a transportation practice run for those first-time bus riders.

This event familiarizes kids with their bus routes and bus drivers ahead of their first day of school jitters.

Tanya Southerland, the NCSD director of public relations says, “It’s a really great opportunity just to get those little kiddos relaxed and aware of the bus hub and the bus transportation process. So lots of smiles today, a little bit of nerves, but we had a great morning just showing those students and their families the successful operations at the NCSD bus hub.”

For many students, bus drivers are the first people they see during the school day and the last people they see before they get home. For first-time bus riders, today was the beginning of a brand new adventure.

Sydney Webb is the director of transportation for the NCSD. He says, “Just offering that positive support, building those relationships and those connections… They just love their bus drivers and watching that positive connection is just priceless.”

The public can help students have a safe and successful year by being aware of those big yellow school buses on the road and keeping an eye out for their flashing stop signs.
