RIVERTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s zero week for football, and we’re now only a few more days away from opening kick off for high school football.

We only have a few previews left, and this time we’ll take a look at the Riverton Wolverines, who have a new head coach at the helm. It will be former Rock Springs coach Mark Lenhardt taking on the head coach role for the Wolverines.

This isn’t Lenhardt’s first time coaching in 3A, as he did coach at Torrington while they were in the conference. As he comes back into the conference, he knows that there is competitive football being played here.

He knows that, ”the competition is very good, there’s excellent coaching at the 3A level. Ya know, I saw it when I was in Torrington and I still feel that way, a lot of the same guys are around. There’s some really good programs that have been built and that’s really what our goal is, is to get Riverton football back to where it was.”

During his four years at Rock Springs, he finished with an overall record of 22-20, and in one of those years he helped bring the Tigers to a state championship game.

Riverton hasn’t found much success in recent memory, last season they only found a single win, and the last time that they were in the playoffs was back in 2020 where they were eliminated in the first round.

One thing that Lenhardt really wants his players to learn is to not be afraid of failure. He said, “Well, I think one thing that we try to live by is no fear of failure. I think in almost anything in life, what holds people back is their fear of not doing well. We’re trying to get these guys to let go, come out and do the best they can and let the chips fall where they may, and wherever that ends up, it ends up”

Ty Sheets, a senior on the team wants to leave everything out on the field in his last year of high school football and help the program change directions. He said he wants to, “leave a legacy of turning it around and put in hard work no matter what and, just letting it show on the field.”

The Wolverines will host Powell on the 25th for their week 0 match up.
