LARAMIE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Laramie can now say that they have themselves an AP Preseason All-American! Cowboys’ place-kicker, John Hoyland, was named to the second team.

Hoyland is as solid as they come for a collegiate place kicker. He is the only Group of Five Player on either the AP First or Second teams.

The Broomfield Colorado native’s 88% field goal percentage marks him as the best returning kicker in the FBS with significant playing time.

The junior is taking the national special teams world by storm. He is also a Second Team Athlon Sports All-American, Third team according to Phil Steele, an All Mountain West First Team Preseason selection, and one of 30 young men nation wide to be placed on the Lou Groza Award Watchlist.

So, Hoyland is no stranger to these awards, they have become a part of his national player identity. Your Wyoming cowboys have one of the best place kickers in the nation.

But to Hoyland, when Wyoming News Now Sports asked him about this type of recognition and how these expectation affect him at media day, it’s all just another day on the job.

“;I try to kind of balance those,” Hoyland Said. “It doesn’t matter unless you back them up on the field. I’m just looking forward to getting on the field and showing that last year was good, but, hopefully have a better year this year. I’m looking forward to having that opportunity in the next couple of weeks.”
