Buckin’ Brew hosts car show benefitting Uprising Wyoming

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Saturday, Buckin’ Brew hosted Driven For A Change, a car show in support of Uprising Wyoming. Uprising’s mission is to empower communities to confront human trafficking and exploitation through awareness, education and outreach.

This is the third annual Driven For A Change event. This year the owners of Buckin’ Brew wanted to support a non-profit dedicated to making an impact in communities across Wyoming.

Abriel Vanvalkenburg, one of the owners of Buckin’ Brew says, “This is a topic that I think needs to be talked about more. You can’t do anything if we’re in silence. If we have a voice I think that we need to use our voice.”

Trafficking and exploitation takes various shapes in different communities, including here in Wyoming. It’s often perpetuated against young people by adults in their lives. Uprising is dedicated to educating folks on the signs and symptoms of those who may be experiencing exploitation.

Catie Reay is a survivor and advocate with Uprising. She says, “Advocates and activists like myself and millions of others across the globe want to make sure that those who are silenced get to have a voice. We will give them a microphone to do so and we will continue to fight for legislative freedom.”

The core values of Uprising are respect, empowerment and spreading awareness throughout Wyoming communities.

Terri Markham, the executive director of Uprising says “This is really important for us just for people to meet us, say hi, hear what we’re about and so this is just something that we are really grateful to be a part of.”

On the day of the car show, 100% of the proceeds from Buckin’ Brew and their neighbor Mountain View Discount Liquor will benefit Uprising Wyoming.
