CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Art in the Yard is put on by the Nest Artist Co-op, an art collective that opened its doors in March. The co-op aims to bring more variety to the Casper art scene.

For Kristin Schaffer, the founding member of the Nest Artist Co-op, it’s been a lifelong dream to bring artists together. She refers to Art in the Yard as a “melting pot” of local artists.

Schaffer says, “It’s kind of like sticking all of the art stuff from Casper together into one thing and one place and sort of making a quilt out of it. That kind of thing for me is a lot of fun.”

At Art in the Yard you can find anything from handmade jewelry, to pottery, traditional visual art and more.

The goal of this event? To give more artists and vendors a place to showcase their craft.

Kristy Bussey owns Bookin’ It, a mobile bookstore. She says, “It’s wonderful to be in a community that is so supportive of all the arts and music and anything that encompasses that. It’s nice that there are so many opportunities in Casper to do stuff like this.”

The feeling behind this event is “if you make it, bring it”. Mike Hills is the artist behind Odd Duck. He believes all art is meant to be shared.

Hill says, “I always say if you make one person smile at an event, you’ve done well. That’s my biggest thing is getting people to see your work. Whether they can afford it or whether they can buy it… really just seeing the joy that it brings people is really the thing that I want to take home from Art in the Yard and that’s what I hope the other vendors take as well.”

At these events, you’ll find local music, handmade art, and some local food vendors, as well. It’s truly a community event.
