Kelly Walsh is coming off a season where they only won one time, and they are starting to work on the little things

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Kelly Walsh Trojans are coming off a tough season from last year, where they finished 1-8 and ended up missing out on the playoffs.

One thing that they’re changing in their approach to the new season is focusing on the little things. Head Coach Aaron Makelky has been preaching just getting a little better each day, and it will make a difference in the long run.

He said, “Well, our philosophy is if we can get lets say 5 or 10 percent better weight room attendance, 5 or 10 percent better nutrition, 5 or 10 percent better sleep, 5 or 10 percent better knowing your plays, that 5 percent isn’t much, but add all of those aggregate gains up and that’s 30 percent.”

The Trojans were young last season, and they are still looking to be on the younger side this year with a handful of seniors. Although they look young on paper, many of their juniors this season do have experience starting in varsity games from last year.

Caleb Ortberg, a senior on the team, says that the team is feeling more focused with some of the new things being implemented. He said, “Everything that coach has been putting, we’re lifting weights, we’re going through playbooks. We didn’t do that as much as we should have last year and I’m really enjoying it. It’s just a lot better this year.”

The Trojans are gearing up to week 0, where they’ll travel to Rock Springs for their first game on August 25th.
