CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -To start us off today we have an active weather day ahead of us. The dark yellow area is an enhanced risk of severe weather and where we could see the strongest storms move through, the yellow is a slight risk where severe storms are a little less likely and will be more isolated, and the dark green areas are where severe storms are less likely than that and those that do pop up will be even more isolated. Still, in all those areas we should be ready for strong to severe storms this afternoon bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small to decent sized hail in Eastern Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle. With these strong storms moving in, let’s be prepared in case a strong storm is in the area and have multiple ways of receiving warnings so you’re up to date on the latest information. Laramie and to the west will likely see these storms move through before 5 PM, Cheyenne and surrounding areas will see the storms move through between 2 PM - 6 PM, and the panhandle will see the storms move through between 5 PM - 9 PM. We could also have storms form behind the main cluster of storms that will develop, but they likely won’t be severe.

After the storms pass, things will cool down this evening as rain cooled air makes it’s way in. Our lows are going to be in the mid to lower 50s and upper 40s. Cooler than the average low for August. Tomorrow’s highs will be a bit warmer as the clouds will be gone and the sun will heat us up. Still, things are going to be cool for summer as we’ll be in the low 80s for our highs. Much more comfortable than mid 90s though.

Tonight's lows are going to be cooler than usual with low 50s and upper 40s around the state.

For our extended forecast, after the storms today, Cheyenne will be dry for the end of the week before storms move back into the area Saturday. After that however, we’ll be nice and dry and warm too with temperatures hovering in the lower 80s and upper 70s. Pleasant weather to be outside and enjoy the end of summer before school starts up again.

For Casper, storms likely today but after today, we’ll be dry all week and weekend long and we’ll hover in the low to mid 80s. Warm but not quite hot and definitely better than the upper 90s we had a while ago. The sun will be out all week for us as well so plenty of sunshine to go around this and next week.

Let’s stay safe, stay aware of changing weather conditions, and enjoy the nice days coming up for us all across Wyoming.
