GLENDO, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Recently a viewer reached out to us, regarding a concern she has about the Glendo State Park. Specifically... Littering and dumping near the reservoir.

Upon arrival at the Glendo Reservoir, I observed two thing. A) I probably should have brought some bug spray... But more importantly, B) there’s definitely some items here that don’t really belong. Metal... Glass... A recliner... And perhaps most disturbing... Animal bones.

“Well the littering problem goes (back) forever. But this specific stuff? Probably about 2018. And it’s been getting progressively worse,” said Christina Meyer. Meyer, a Casper native, has family in Glendo, and visits at least twice a month, if not more. Besides the unsightliness of the illegal dumping, Meyer says she has an even greater concern. “The North Platte River feeds into here, and it goes down. Goes to Nebraska. Yeah. And it’s getting polluted with carcasses and a lot of other stuff.”

Meyer says most of the park is beautiful, but believes more supervision from park service is needed. “I think they should at least patrol this area more. Because this is a day use only area... I think that’s why they (polluters) chose this place... To make their personal dumping ground. And there’s never patrol over here.”

As for the culprits or the cause of the littering and dumping? Meyer has a theory...

“It’s everybody, but I believe the main stuff is (from) locals here in Glendo. They’re using this as their personal dumping ground. It’s pretty sad. They need to get a dump here (in Glendo). Or something has to happen! Something needs to change!”

We spoke with the own of Glendo Clerk... Tristany Hoffman... Who said the town does offer a burn pile once a week and every other Saturday. But Hoffman also confirmed the nearest waste dumps are in Douglas or Wheatland.

As for the Glendo Park Service? Superintendent Brian Johnson says summer staff is currently only about 50% of what they’d prefer.
