CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Starting July 24th, Goshen and Platte County have been issued stage 1 fire restrictions by the Bureau of Land Management.
In Natrona County no restrictions have yet to be issued, but could be issued soon according to firefighters. Now that the warmer weather is drying out fields, making sure that grass is properly cut will help reduce the spread of fire. Leighton Burgen with the Natrona County Fire District said, even if you think a fire is out pour more water on top to be sure it’s fully out. Knowing where your gas, electric and water main shut off controls are just one step. Having fire extinguishers on hand and knowing how to use them as well as using Ember resistant building materials are also steps to take to with-stand fires from growing.
According to Burgen in case of a fire there are 6 P’s of evacuation to follow:
Number 1- People and pets
number 2- Papers, phone numbers and important documents
Number 3- Prescriptions, vitamins, and eyeglasses
Number 4- Pictures and irreplaceable memorabilia
Number 5- Personal computers (information on a hard drive and thumb drive)
Number 6- Plastic (credit cards, ATM cards and cash)
According to firefighters, following the 6 P’s will help make sure you have essential items if a disaster or fire happens.
More information can be found on the Natrona County Emergency Management website or by contacting local fire departments and the Natrona County Sheriffs.
