Ice fighting event set to hit Cheyenne on Saturday
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s everything you love about hockey: the fighting
It’s called Ice Wars. It’s basically hockey but without the pucks, sticks, passing and scoring. Just the fighting.
The bracket-style tournament will feature 24 fighters facing off in as many as 14 fights in the hopes of winning the $10,000 grand prize.
Each fight will be a one-on-one matchup comprising up to three one-minute rounds.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. in Cheyenne at Outlaw Saloon, 312 S Greeley Hwy.
The hype of Ice Wars has even drawn the attention of some pro athletes. Several UFC fighters, former Denver Broncos players, and even former Colorado Avalanche enforcer, Scott Parker, are expected to be in attendance.
Bryan Pederson, commissioner for the Wyoming MMA commission, says he hopes that Ice Wars will be the spark to help ignite the Cheyenne economy and entertainment scene.
“There’s going to be a lot of expansion here because you went into two sports right away. People love combat sports and there’s a whole NHL fanbase out there. And when you have access to those millions of people, I see nothing but a big future and it started right here in the Cowboy state,” Pedersen said.
