Strong Storms Possible Today and Tomorrow
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - We once again have severe weather possible today and tomorrow for our area. Today we have a slight risk of severe storms for the areas in yellow which includes Cheyenne, Laramie, and places north and east such as Chugwater and Pine Bluffs. These storms that develop today will likely have hail, strong winds, and heavy rain. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out either as the environment is favorable. Be aware of the potential for storms and have multiple ways of receiving warnings in case of severe weather. Today’s storms will likely start to develop around 3:00 PM and continue into our evening and overnight hours.
We currently have a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for most of southeastern Wyoming and western Nebraska because of the potential of severe storms and that watch will continue until 9:00 PM tonight. Remember, a watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of severe storms. A warning means a severe storm is imminent or happening currently.
Since we could see severe storms over the next few days, here are some safety tips to keep you and those around you safe in the event of severe weather. Severe storms can form quickly when the environment is favorable so knowing how to stay safe is important.
Today isn’t the only day for severe storms either. For those to the north and east, the most likely day for severe weather is tomorrow (Friday). For tomorrow we have a moderate (3/5) risk of severe weather. Those storms can also have a number of hazards with them from large hail and strong winds, to the occasional tornado. Storms will likely start in the late afternoon tomorrow so be prepared for active weather as we make our way through the day tomorrow.
For our extended forecast, a stormy day today for Cheyenne and a chance of storms tomorrow but a nice and dry weekend ahead and a warmer week on the way. We could see a few spotty showers but no risk of severe weather and any showers that form should move out quickly.
For Casper, showers and storms will be to our south and southeast but a stray shower could make it’s way into the area today and tomorrow. Into the new week a slight chance of rain most days but it will stay dry most if not all week long and any showers that form will move through quickly.
