Prep Athlete of the Week: Julian Romero, Post 6
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Post 6 is coming off a packed weekend of games in Pueblo, and during those contests Julian Romero was as reliable as they come in the hitting and OBP departments.
A good chunk of Romero’s offense came in clutch moments to help secure a few victories for the Sixers, and he said that he relishes being in those types of situations.
”Yeah I think it’s fun. When it’s very competitive, you versus the other guy, I think that’s when I really shine the most. I like those positions, I like being in those spots,” Romero said.
Romero showed excellent plate discipline at the Tony Andenucio Memorial Tournament; he posted a .368 Batting average with a .400 on base percentage, and that played a crucial role in the Sixers’ run production. He drove in four runs-- two of which came in a tight 4-2 victory over Colorado Baseball Academy-- scored five himself, and had nearly half of his hits go for extra bases.
Romero also impressed in his brief showing on the mound, going perfect with a strikeout in his one inning of action on Friday.
With the end of his Post 6 career in mind, Romero said his mission this year is to be a positive influence on the younger players so they can have present and future success.
”One of my goals is probably just teaching the younger kids a lot of stuff before I leave. Just showing them how we do it for Post 6 and all that. That’s my main goal because you’re not going to play baseball forever, so [I just want to] pass it down to everybody else, give my knowledge to them. And then for the team, just for us to all play together and win another state championship would be awesome,” Romero said.
Congratulations to Julian Romero on his performances during the tournament.
