CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - One familiar face within UW’s men’s basketball team is set for a jump up in responsibility. Coach Ken DeWeese was promoted to associate head coach this offseason. He’s been on Jeff Linder staff for nearly a decade, with that familiarity playing a big role this year.

“I think it helps a lot because I think I can facilitate a little bit for those guys about what Coach Linder wants, what he’s thinking, make their transition a little easier and smoother. Hopefully with us going on year eight together, that I can kind of be a step ahead of what he’s thinking and not have to worry about reacting, but also just being prepared for what he needs.”

Coach DeWeese and company have had a busy offseason. For a stretch of time, he and coach Linder were the only two on the staff while they searched for their next wave of players.

The early stages seem to point to a pretty successful offseason. Many of the new players are already in Laramie working with coach DeWeese, which he says sends a clear message to this staff and to the fans.

“It means we got the right guys. Everybody wants to be in the gym the first week, but the guys that’ll be in here in three weeks, four weeks, six weeks, those are when you know you have the right ones.”
