Needs Inc talks Stamp out Hunger and Cheyenne Day of Giving
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Needs Inc says the Stamp Out Hunger event was a great win.
They raised 22,000 pounds of food split between 14 organizations; of that, Needs Inc. received about 2300 pounds of food alone.
“It was a huge success; we definitely had a lot of donations. The community did a great job in sending out their non-perishables, so we were able to get a really good haul, definitely even bigger than last year. So that was great, especially because our need continues to rise,” said Kristen Erin Balderaz, Executive Director for Needs Inc.
Needs Inc said they had an excellent turnout for the stamp out hunger campaign.
They received eight pallets of food donations.
Cheyenne Day of Giving was a two-day event kicked off by the Youth Day of Giving.
They collected non-perishables and clothing, followed by the community Day of Giving.
Hygiene items were high on their wish list, including undergarments and socks.
Balderaz says that as they reach the end of their grant funds, they expect an uptick in need when some Covid programs end this summer.
“This is how we replenish our supply, especially going into the summer months; when we’re at the end of certain grant funding, this is a really big push to help us get through the summer. We have kids that are home from school.... so the need grows during the summer as well. So this is a really good boost in our inventory to help us reach more people in our community,” said Balderaz.
The non-profit says they still need food donations, including proteins, like canned tuna, chicken, and portable foods, like cereals and canned pasta.
