Endurance adventure race returns to Wyoming
The ‘Cowboy Tough Adventure Race’ set to take marks August 12
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - “The Amazing Race” is coming to Wyoming.
Well, sort of. The TV show won’t be filming but a race, amazing in its own right, will be arriving in the Cheyenne area Saturday, August 12.
The ‘Cowboy Tough Adventure Race’ is an extreme endurance race combining running, biking and paddling into one multi-hour race through the Wyoming wilderness.
Taking place at the Camp Russell Shelter in Curt Gowdy State Park, the race offers three tiers of competition: a four-hour race for beginners and families, an eight-hour course for intermediates and a 24-hour race for elite athletes.
“[The 24-hour race] will put racers’ endurance to the ultimate test. With sections reaching over 8,000 feet in elevation, this race promises awe-inspiring views, thrilling mountain biking trails, and challenging trekking sections. Brace yourself for two paddle sections that will have you conquering the winds and experiencing the untamed spirit of the Wild West,” a press release from Visit Cheyenne stated.
The 8-hour race covers an estimated distance of 50 miles, including 2-4 miles of paddling, 8-12 miles of trekking, and more than 25 miles of mountain biking.
The 4-hour race, designed for beginners and families, offers a more tame introduction to adventure racing.
“The 4-hour adventure race at Curt Gowdy State Park promises an excellent introduction to the thrill and excitement of adventure racing. Get ready to run, bike, paddle and navigate your way through the park’s stunning trails while creating memories sure to last a lifetime,” the press release added.
Registration for the race is open until midnight July 31.
