Degenfelder releases strategic plan
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder has released a strategic plan for the Wyoming Department of Education.
The superintendent intends to create a transparent state education system encouraging parental involvement.
They want to encourage impartiality while preparing Wyoming students for good careers and engaged citizenship.
”Our students deserve a well-rounded factual education thats free from political bias. The minute we have a political agenda or bias in the class room our american education system really fails. So we want to make sure those systems and policies are in place,” said Degenfelder.
The strategic plan will have six key initiative areas that will have a cabinet of parents, educators and industry representatives to help make them happen.
Some of these initiatives include parental empowerment, eliminating political bias, preparing students for jobs through career and technical education,
Developing citizenship and valuing, supporting and paying teachers.
When asked about the controversial topics of book banning, transgender sports, and curtailing inclusive history.
Degenfelder says educating Wyoming students is not only about ensuring they have employable skills but also that schools help create well-rounded, engaged citizens that are mentally healthy and prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.
“Looking at how do we honor parental rights in our education and make sure all those voices are heard. And them again, we focus on what we are doing in our schools. That when it comes to our public schools and our tax payer dollars, that’s really about educating based on the standards that we’ve created and really creating that well-rounded factual education,” said Degenfelder.
These cabinets will start working on these initiatives within the next month over the next few years.
These policies and recommendations will go to the legislative chamber and classrooms.
The strategic plan is posted here.
And the transparency website will be developed over the next year. We will keep you updated on its progress.
