Lady Bearcats Can’t Find One More Against Worland, and the Boys Take the Warriors the Distance
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It was senior day for the Bearcats yesterday, as they took on Worland who’s teams are both ranked in 3A soccer.
The girls went up against #2, and they found themselves in a two goal deficit going into the second half. The keeper for Worland, Mackenzie Ray, made it very difficult for the Lady Bearcats to generate goals. However, they managed to find an opportunity early in the second half, as Lauren Olsen sent Bailey Wright who managed to beat Ray and pull the game within one. Although they closed the gap a bit, it was near impossible to get the ball passed Ray after that. They fell to Worland 3-2 in their last regular season game.
Douglas’ boys team had the chance to not only avenge the girls loss, but also upset the #1 team in 3A in the last regular season game. Both teams defenses were on point in this one, and the weather conditions didn’t make scoring on offense any easier. Any chances that either team found, whether it be through breakaways or free kicks, were met by the gloves of the keeper. Thanks to their efforts, no team scored in regulation, and it all came down to a shootout. In the end, Worland escaped an upset, as they defeated Douglas 4-3 in penalties.
