CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Central softball team has been on a torrid stretch lately, and a significant chunk of their production has come from sophomore Izzy Kelly.

She was phenomenal from the plate last week, and said the biggest key for her during this hot streak has been her ability to stay patient in the batter’s box.

”I think it was pitch selection. Because usually I’m trying to get ahead in the count and hit the first or second pitch. I think I was waiting for my one inside pitch that I want to drive, so I don’t pop out on a pitch that I shouldn’t have even swung at,” Kelly said.

She attacked all the right pitches last week, and that’s a big reason why the Lady Indians were able to sweep Wheatland twice and fifth ranked Laramie on the road. Kelly went 14-23 at the dish for a .609 batting average, picked up 10 RBIs and scored runs almost every time she got on base.

If those stats aren’t impressive enough, six of her 14 knocks went for extra bases, and half of the those hits were round trippers-- three home runs in the six games Central played.

While Kelly herself is on a roll, she said the Lady Indians as a whole are peaking at the right time with the playoffs just around the corner.

”The team has grown actually a lot from the beginning of the season. We’ve gotten so much better together, and our chemistry is really good now. We’re having fun together, and it’s just clicking. Now we’re hitting good, and it’s just working and it’s really fun out there,” Kelly said.

Congratulations to Izzy Kelly on her fantastic outings.
