Prep Athlete of the Week: Kynlee Griffith, Kelly Walsh
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Kelly Walsh’s softball team played six games this past week, winning five of them-- including a victory against number four Cody.
Kynlee Griffith wasn’t just a crucial part of the recent success, she’s been a force to be reckoned with all season. Her dominance on the mound was at the forefront for the Lady Trojans, with each impressive inning finishing with her signature celebration.
“You’ll see me after I throw a pitch, I go like this [makes hand motion]. I have a mom on the team, after I struck out someone, she’d always yell ‘she gone’, and it kind of just stuck with me. My little [hand motion] is kind of like ‘wrap it up, we’re headed in’,” Griffith said.
It was a worthy week of celebrating for her; she completely shut down Rock Springs last Monday, allowing just four hits in a complete game shutout. In another outing on the bump on Saturday, she spun four innings of one run ball with eight strikeouts-- and that’s just what she did pitching. It’s possible her performances at the dish were as good, if not better.
Across the six games she went 12-20 hitting while driving in 11 runs and scoring six herself; five of her hits were for extra bases with three doubles, a triple, and a homer.
With the way she and her teammates have been playing, Griffith believes they will be a problem the rest of the season.
“I think it really shows everyone else that we’re here to win, we’re here to play, we’re not going to let other teams push us around, kind of. We’re gonna take it, we’re gonna take State,” Griffith said.
Congratulations to Kynlee Griffith on her dominant showings.
