CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Wyoming football team is in their final week of spring practice that will conclude with their spring game on Saturday.

Head coach Craig Bohl said the scrimmage will provide a helpful opportunity for the players to simulate the real deal.

”There’s some things that we have worked on that are not going to be shown, but you’re going to see some of the things that we’ve done... I think it’s important for our players to be able to play in front of our fans. Particularly for a younger player, even though it’s not a game it gives them that sense of what a game is like. I think it’s important to have our players [with] no coaches on the field, [but with] officials, game clock, uniforms,” Bohl said.

This allows Coach Bohl and his staff to make their last judgements before the summer. The roster isn’t the same as it was when these practices started, as multiple players like Hank Gibbs, Caden Becker, and Emmaunel Pregnon hitting the transfer portal.

While time is running out in this window for players to stand out and impress, they’ll still have some time before the season begins to display what they’ve got.

Bohl said he’s hopeful that Pokes fans are able to come out and show their support.

”I encourage our fans to come out and have a chance to embrace this football team. They’re going to like this team, and I personally like it as well... There’s going to be some critics of ‘oh, we didn’t do this right, we didn’t do that right.’ You’ll see guys play with great energy, class... And there will be some unsung hero-- probably from the state of Wyoming-- that everyone gets fired up with. That’s how ‘Big Horn’ [receiver Will Pelissier] made his splash a couple years ago,” Bohl said.

The game is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
