East’s Rylee Stephenson tosses three-inning no-hitter in Lady T-Birds’ doubleheader sweep of South on Monday
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - East and South’s softball teams met once again on Monday for a doubleheader; the Lady Bison were looking to pick up their first win against the Lady T-Birds, and the top team in the state had a few more opportunities to defend their ranking.
The start of the first game set up a potential dogfight the rest of the way; East led 4-3 at the end of the first frame, but dominated the rest of the way. The Lady T-Birds scored 13 unanswered runs to ultimately take the conference game 17-3. Jaylyn Christensen and Lillian Vallejo both went yard, and the duo of Vallejo and Gracie Oswald combined for four hits and six RBIs to spearhead the scoring explosion.
The second leg got out of hand fairly quickly as the Lady T-Birds jumped out to an 8-0 lead after the first inning. They combined for eight more across the next two innings to trigger the 15 run mercy rule and end the contest early. While it lasted, Rylee Stephenson was literally unhittable on the mound for East; she surrendered a grand total of zero knocks to the opposing Lady Bison in the 16-0 shutout. Offensively, Trista Stehwein led the way with two hits and two RBIs to help complete the sweep.
