CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Central and East’s soccer teams were supposed to play each other on Wednesday, but the weather pushed both games to Thursday. The contests ended up being well worth the wait.

The girls had first action at Riske Field, and it brought fireworks. The Lady Indians held a 1-0 lead going into halftime, and the second half turned into a slugfest. In the 53rd minute, Amalia Morillon put back a rebound to get East on the board and tie the game at 1-1. Just four minutes later, Central’s Ava Newton gave them the lead back after burying a cross from Alyssa Brenchley. East would level it again in the 67th minute when Avery Brinkman tucked away a snipe from outside of the box, and with just four minutes remaining in the game Jordan Griess scored to give the Lady T-Birds their first lead-- and ultimately the win-- by a score of 3-2.

In the following game, neither boys team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half despite plenty of opportunities both ways. East’s Connor Kling was able to break the deadlock early in the second half, but just a few minutes later Central’s Logan Custis drew and converted on a penalty kick. The score would hold at 1-1 for the rest of regulation, so overtime was necessary to decide a winner. Sam Shumway made sure it would be Central, as he scored in the 87th minute to help keep the Indians undefeated with a 2-1 victory.
