CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Cheyenne high school soccer was fairly quiet overall last week due to the weather, but this week that’s not the case.

A crosstown rivalry was renewed on the pitch Wednesday, as East and South’s soccer teams met for the first time this season.

The first half of the boys game was a defensive battle; both teams had chances, but neither could break the ice with a goal. There was no scoring until the 53rd minute when Caleb Rains was on the attack for the T-Birds. He took a shot that was deflected the wrong way off a Bison defender’s foot, and it snuck by the keeper for an own goal. That ultimately ended up as the decider, and East took the contest 1-0 to grab back-to-back victories. Despite a valiant effort, the Bison remain winless thus far.

The girls game saw a bit more offensive output. East’s Haley Pearson tucked a long strike late in the first half to break the ice, and that score would hold until the waning minutes of the second half when Amalia Morillon tacked on another score. The final would end up at 2-0, and the Lady T-Birds evened their conference record at 2-2 while leaving South still looking for their first victory.
