Snow Storm Arriving Monday
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Starting off, we have a few weather alerts across the area. A Winter Storm Warning and Winter Weather Advisory to our west that both expire early tomorrow, and a High Wind Warning from Casper, through Rawlins, and just west of Cheyenne. We also have a Winter Storm Watch in the blue. That’s due to a big winter storm making it’s way into our area in the coming days.

Taking a look at this winter storm, it’ll first arrive Sunday night with some rain and snow and we’ll get a bit of a break before the main stuff moves in. During this time we’ll be cooling down to freezing or just above so that rain could start to freeze into snow on it’s way down or even be freezing rain that we have to watch out for. Travel could be impacted during this time.

As we move into Monday morning, we see the snow really move into the area with a large amount of snow through the state. This is when places like Rawlins and Evanston will likely see the heaviest snow. Winds will also be blowing through the area so visibility could be reduced as well. Take extra care during the morning commute, especially in those areas and higher elevations.

As we get into Tuesday, we can see that the snow doesn’t go anywhere. It will stick around through Monday into Tuesday and continue dropping snow all day. Tuesday is likely when Cheyenne and Casper see their heaviest snowfalls. Again, travel may become difficult so be prepared if you do have to drive, give yourself plenty of time, and take it easy on the roads.

Finally, on Wednesday morning, the snow moves on and the sun will come out. Temperatures will still be low so the sun will have to do the work melting the snow but roads will start to improve through Wednesday. However, with the amount of snow forecast to fall, we likely won’t see roads fully clear until later on Wednesday or even into Thursday. Some places may see roads remaining slick for some time. If there’s any ice or snow on the roads, take it slow as just a bit of snow or ice can make any road slick and cause any vehicle to slide.

Unfortunately, the snow isn’t just going to sit there either. Some places will be seeing some strong wind gusts on Monday afternoon which can blow the snow around and lower visibility as well as create some large snow drifts. It’s shaping up to be a very wintry couple of days ahead for the Cowboy State and we need to be prepared for winter to make it’s return.

With our extended forecast though, we can finally see some good news. Plenty of sun for the area after the storm passes with temperatures returning to normal after a few cold days as well. Next weekend especially is when we see temperatures finally get back to normal. In Casper, again, the sun and warmer temperatures will follow the winter storm so as long as we get through the storm and cold weather, we’ll have a nice and sunny weekend next week. With this winter weather coming, let’s be ready, stay safe, and stay warm folks.
