East’s Dom Kaszas and Taliah Morris combined for five individual wins at indoor track and field states

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Two East track and field athletes won individual championships at indoor states, and not only that, both of them were victorious in multiple events.

Dom Kaszas and Taliah Morris combined to win five events over the weekend, and those wins made them each first time indoor champions.

Kaszas had seen teammates in the past win titles, but he said that winning himself in his senior year felt much different.

”It was pretty cool. Obviously I’ve had teammates in the past when I went to Sheridan who have done it. Seeing them do it obviously was cool for them, but actually having it is a different kind of feeling,” Kaszas said.

Kaszas took first in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.57 seconds, then followed that performance up with a 22.79 to win the 200 meter dash as well.

Morris cleaned up on the girls side, dominating in both the track and the field events. Like Kaszas, she won the 55 meter and 200 meter dash with respective times of 7.19 And 25.55, but she also earned gold in the long jump by a foot and a half.

Morris had never won it in indoor states but she did at outdoor last year, and with a whole other year of high school ahead of her she still has a lot she wants to achieve.

”I want to make it to the next level. So just like keeping that in mind just helps me strive to get better each and every day. Not even just in season, just in the off-season, you know? You just gotta put the work in... What you put in is how far you’ll go. So I’m just trying to make it as far as I can, academically and athletically,” Morris said.
