CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - It’s been quite the year for Central’s Meadow King. As one of the inaugural wrestlers in the girls 145 pound division, she picked up plenty of accolades. One of those happened to be the state title for her weight class, a championship she felt confident she could earn due to her background in martial arts.

”I felt like with the season that it would go pretty well for me. I go and I wrestle in Colorado and I do Jiu-Jitsu off-season, so I knew that as long as I kept putting in the work that I would end up doing ok,” said Meadow.

Meadow ended her year with a 23-5 record on the mats, while also winning other tournaments like the Ron Thon Memorial earlier this season. She will forever be the first winner of her division in the states history, but her role as a mentor could help grow the sport for the next wave of athletes.

“A lot of people, especially little girls, will come up to you and ask you questions about should they wrestle, or certain things about wrestling, or will this move work, or what can I do about their nerves. You just take what you’ve learned over the years and try and help them as much as you can.”
