CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Our winter storm is ongoing so let’s run through what we should be aware of during this event.

Starting us off, the Cowboy state is covered in weather alerts. The pink is a Winter Storm Warning through the area where heavy snow is expected and that snow will be blowing around in the wind so it could cut visibility down as well. In the orange we have a Blizzard Warning where heavy snow is expected/happening and it is blowing around making it very hard if not impossible to see. Finally the greyish blue color is a Wind Chill Warning where wind chills are expected to drop to around -30 to -40. We currently have more snow falling across the area and it will continue to fall through the day so we should be prepared. Take extra time if you must travel and be prepared for the very cold winds, the blowing snow, and the ice and snow on the roads.

Things don’t get much better tonight as across the state our lows will be far below zero. Most places will be around -15 to -20 for a low and just a slight breeze can really drop what it feels like when it’s that cold outside. If you must go out tonight, pack an extra layer or two and be prepared for those winds. Also try to minimize your time outside. The less time that wind is hitting you, the better. Also bring pets and animals inside. They can’t put on a jacket or a thick coat on top of what they have and in this cold of temperature, most animals aren’t prepared for it.

Wrapping things up with our extended forecast, I finally have some good news. Warmer temperatures will make their glorious return on Friday with the sun coming out as well so hopefully the sun can start melting the snow off our roads and improve travel for us around the area. Those warmer temperatures will continue later on into the week as well and the sun will stay with us keeping us warm. For our friends in Casper, again, warmer temperatures will return on Thus day and it will stay warm for some time with plenty of sun as well.
