Prep Athlete of the Week: Drew Jackson, East
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The high school basketball scene was alive and well in Cheyenne over the weekend, and the T-Birds kept it rolling as they remained undefeated against 4A competition.
Guard Drew Jackson had a big role in that success, particularly in their game against Thunder Basin. He said that contest was the first time this season he truly felt that every facet of his game was locked in.
”My shot was falling how I’m used to it, and I haven’t really had a game like that this year. So it was good to get back to how I play, and be able to shoot the midrange, make layups, all that stuff. It was all going for me, and that felt good for it to be my first game of that,” Jackson said.
Jackson was the focal point of the T-Birds offense in East’s 55-41 win over the Bolts on Saturday. He was able to maneuver his way through Thunder Basin’s defense with ease and score seemingly every time he shot the ball. However, that wasn’t the only game on the weekend where he made an impact.
The day before, East picked up a hard fought 67-62 victory against Campbell County. Jackson didn’t have as prominent of a scoring impact in that game as he did against the Bolts, but he showcased another part of his game that he’s elevated since his teammate Colter McAnelly’s injury.
”I think the biggest role that I’ve had to take on was rebounding better. Because when Colter and Kysar [Jolley] were both in there, the guards didn’t really have to worry about rebounding that much. But now that Colter’s not in we kind of have to take on a bigger role of rebounding, and I think that Garet [Schlabs] and I are doing a pretty good job,” Jackson said.
Congratulations to Jackson on his stellar performances.
