CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Winters are not dull, gloomy, and cold but rather, vivacious, thrilling, and full of new opportunity. At least that’s what the Wyoming State Museum (WSM) will try to convince people of next Saturday.
On February 4 the WSM will host a collaborative celebration of the people, departments, and tools that keep Wyoming running all winter long. “Wyoming Winter” is part of the museum’s monthly, free Family Day programs, hosted on the first Saturday of every month.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., adults and children alike are invited to participate in this fun-filled event featuring crafts, games, up close encounters with museum collections, story time, and more.
As far as the winter activities being represented are concerned, there’s certainly no deficit. The museum will showcase snowshoeing, ice fishing, ice skating, skiing, and winter camping, among others. They’re even touting a snowshoe obstacle course.
But that’s not even the best part.
“The stars of our show are going to be the equipment that people like WYDOT and the trails program [use].” Melisa McChesney, WSM’s curator of community engagement, said. “We’ve got a big 38,000-pound snowplow that’s going to be parked outside, a snow cat, snowmobile, and lots of other equipment that they use.”
Partners from Wyoming State Parks, Wyoming Game & Fish, WYDOT, Wyoming Outdoor Recreation, and Wyoming Trails Program will come together to teach kids and families how teams across the state work together to keep winter fun and safe for everyone in Wyoming
In addition to the many fun and educational activities, The Hawthorne Tree will be selling beverages and snacks throughout the event.
