Kelly Walsh Trojan Border Wars 2023

CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

The Kelly Walsh Trojan Border Wars wrestling tournament took place this past weekend. The tournament included teams from Wyoming (Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, Douglas, Cheyenne Central, and Renegade), South Dakota (Rapid City Central), Nebraska (North Platte), and Colorado (Broomfield).

The tournament had a series of dual meets where each team got to wrestle each other. There were a couple of standout wrestlers who managed to go undefeated throughout the weekend and showed sheer dominance on the mats.

Two wrestlers from Cheyenne Central continued their undefeated streaks in 2023.

Jack Ring, the 182 lb. wrestler for Central went 5-0 in the matches he wrestled, and another two won via forfeit. Four of those wins came off of tech fall, where he won by 15 points. His other win came from a pin fall in 1:44.

The other wrestler, who had arguably the best showing, was 220 lb. wrestler Keagan Bartlett. Not only did he go 7-0 during the weekend, he won every single one of his matches via pin. The quickest match took 46 seconds, and the longest 2:18.

Moving to the Central Wyoming schools, starting with Douglas, their standout wrestler was 160 lb. Lane Ewing. Ewing won his seven matches a multitude of ways, including five pin falls, a majority decision, and one regular decisions.

For the hosts of the tournament, Kelly Walsh, it was 132 lb. wrestler Jerred Smith who went undefeated for them (7-0). His victories came in the form of four pin falls (the fastest being in 27 seconds), one majority decision, and two decisions.

The final school to talk about is Natrona County, who had one wrestler go undefeated. That wrestler being Tristian Tromble, the 106 pounder who didn’t drop any matches on the weekend. His victories were won via three pins, one majority decision, and three decisions.

Natrona County would also go on to win the tournament, as they didn’t drop a single meet during the weekend.
