CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

American Medical Response Cheyenne has welcomed a new therapy-dog-in training as part of a national program operated by AMR’s parent company, Global Medical Response.

Lucas, a 2-month-old Goldendoodle, is training to help care for the mental health of first responders in Laramie County as part of the Global Medical Response Therapy Dog Program. First responders with better mental health can provide better care to the community, as said by an official.

Once fully certified as a therapy dog, Lucas will be available to assist first responders from AMR and other agencies throughout the state following critical or high-stress incidents.

Not only does AMR work with service dogs, but other supporting agencies have also paired with AMR to partake in the program. AMR is currently the only agency to have a support dog on site.

The Fire Department, Cheyenne Police Department, and Highway Patrol all take occasional strolls to visit with Lucas.

Scott McKee an EMT at AMR said “he has seen that Lucas tremendously impacts the teams.”
