CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - We’re still in a warming trend around the area so temperatures will continue to be warmer than average across the area but just when you think spring has sprung, we do have cold temperatures and a chance of snow returning on Wednesday so here’s our reminder that winter isn’t over yet.

First, let’s start out with our highs today, upper to mid 40s around the Cheyenne area with Casper in the mid 30s. Those temperatures are warmer than average as the average temperature in Cheyenne is around 40° at this time of year. Casper is just about on average as their average is 35° at this time of year. The above average temperatures will continue into tomorrow as well, with temperatures reaching the 50 degree mark in Cheyenne and around the Cheyenne area temperatures will be just below 50° up in the Casper area, most places will remain just below 40°.

Lows tonight will remain near freezing for many places across the area but the northern part of Wyoming and the easternmost portions of Wyoming will be a bit cooler in the upper 20s. However the cold weather comes back tomorrow night. The entire state will be below freezing again, just in time for that chance of snow.

That snow chance is all thanks to a low pressure system off to our west that’s hammering California with even more rain after the last system caused power outages. While the system is mainly causing major flooding in California, it will head our way and will arrive on Wednesday. That system will bring in the cold temperatures which means we will likely see snow but if temperatures stay a bit warmer, we could see a wintry mix. For now, it looks as though most places won’t see any significant accumulation of snow but that can change as the storm moves closer. As with the last storm, we’ll keep you up to date on what to expect with this storm.

However, travelers have one more problem to face even before the snow arrives. High winds are expected today through most of the area, specifically in the South Laramie Range, Carbon, Converse, Platte, Natrona, and Laramie Counties. Wind gusts can get up to 75 MPH in some areas so travel can be impacted significantly.
