CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Pine Bluffs opened their boys basketball season over the weekend in the Burns Winter Classic, and during the tournament Hornets senior Stu Lerwick hit the 1,000 points mark in his high school basketball career.

He said it was a big milestone for him, but one he kept to himself until he had nearly reached it.

“Well, I told them that I was about five points away, and Ryan [Fornstrom’s] like ‘well, we’re not passing him the ball.’ Then we come out in the second half and I’m like still five points away and Collin [Jessen’s] like ‘coach, can Stu just sit the entire second half? Like he doesn’t need to play, we got it,’” Lerwick said.

Stu hit the mark in the Hornets’ 66-36 win over Newcastle just three games into his senior season. While he’s happy to have the accolade, he said it’s just a side note when thinking about the season as a whole.

“It was something that I knew would just come and it was kind of just something we kind of celebrated. It was never something I was like ‘ok, I got to work on this so I can get to 1,000 points this season,’ like no, we’re just going to go win some games this weekend and that’s all we got to do the rest of the season. Just win some games,” Lerwick said.

Congratulations to Stu on an impressive feat.
