CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Glenrock Herders will have a much different schedule this season as they jump up to conference 3A from 2A. The Herders were in conference 3A 6 seasons ago, and now is the time that they return.

Being in a new conference, the team knows that the competition will only get better. Head coach Shawn Huxtable has used this off season in order to prepare his team as best as possible for the upcoming season.

Huxtable said that during the offseason they, “Approached our summer team camps a little differently. We tried to get into some upper-level competition a little higher competition. Levels of understanding what the defense intensity is going to be like, and the physicality will be like. That’s basically all we’ve done differently is just try to prepare by putting ourselves in situations this summer where we had to play bigger, tougher, stronger athletes.”

Last season, Glenrock had a rough season, as they finished it with an overall record of 3-18 and an in-conference record of 1-2. They struggled offensively as they averaged the lowest amount of points per game last season with 38.9.

They will have a younger team this year, only having seven upper classmen, two of which are seniors. One of those seniors, Logan Jones, was the leading scorer for Glenrock last season averaging 12.3 points per game.

Entering his eighth season as head coach, Huxtable has been preaching one word to his players throughout the offseason: Tough.

Jones talked about their mantra this season, saying, “Be tough. Be the toughest guy. Be the guy to dive on the floor. Be the guy to get the extra rebound. Do the thing that no one else wants to do.” Junior Charlie Schowengerdt also commented on some things that coach has been stressing such as, “The little things. Being very fundamental and just being willing to dive on the floor for the loose ball, go get that rebound, make the right defensive play.”

Glenrock opened their season on December 9th during the Herder Classic in Glenrock.
