CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - East had three more of their athletes officially sign to continue their athletic careers in college on Tuesday.

Jaylyn Christensen will be playing softball at Bellevue College in Washington State, Elysiana Fonseca is staying close to home playing volleyball at LCCC, and Shannon Bailey will be a little further away swimming at Southwest Minnesota State.

Christensen was All-Conference Honorable Mention last season as a pitcher and has won 37 games on the mound in her career, Fonseca made her third consecutive All-State team this past season while leading the Lady Thunderbirds in kills and blocks each of the last two years as East’s middle hitter, and Bailey won 11 events over the course of this season while placing top three in 27 of them. She will primarily swim breaststroke at the next level.

While each of these girls are participating in a different sport in college, they were all grateful for their time as Lady Thunderbirds.

“It means the world. I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a little girl, probably since the age of eight, and I’m just glad that I made it come true. I could not be here today without all of my coaches, my family, and friends. It’s just such an amazing experience and a journey that I can’t wait to be a part of,” Christensen said.

“My coach, she’s helped me from the very beginning. We’ve always had a really close bond because I did start playing with her when I was in eighth grade. So she’s always been there, we’ve always had a close relationship on and off the court,” Fonseca said.

“It means a lot. I’ve met a lot of great people throughout it, and it just turned out to be a really great team and environment for me. It just really made me love the sport even more,” Bailey said.

Congratulations to all three girls on taking the next step in their careers.
