CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Kelly Walsh Trojans lost a lot of seniors from last season where they finished in 3rd place after losing to the would be state champions Thunder Basin by two points. They only have four players returning from last years team this season.

With the exit of these seniors, Kelly Walsh has a much younger team this time around. Along with the younger team, they have lost a majority of their size, meaning some players will have to take on different roles than they have in the past.

Senior Isaak Mamot is one of those players who were on the team last season, and had to work on different aspects of his game this off season. “Last year I was like in the middle of the team height wise, this year I’m one of the tallest. So this off season, I just focused on being a big man in a way and worked on my post moves,” Mamot stated.

The Trojans last year had an overall record of 22-6 and an in conference record of 6-4. Even though they are on the younger side this year, head coach Randy Roden believes in the talent of this group. One of the keys for Kelly Walsh this season will be to get as much experience as they can get playing other teams.

“We need to play and we need to play good competition, we need to play competition that’s level with us we need, we just need to get on the court. We’re so young, you know we’re going to grow up faster the better the teams are that we play as long as we keep our confidence and we’ll make a plan and keep adjusting that plan so that we improve and hopefully by March we can do something with our team... We’re not going to get a reprieve from anybody but we need to play and just improve in all areas nightly. We really can’t practice and understand what we need to improve on, we’re going to have to play so we can actually see it on film because we just can’t mimic the size of other teams,” said Roden.

Kelly Walsh begins their season on December 8th in the Windy City Tournament.
