Warm Weekend Ends With Snow Showers From West
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Temperatures warmed Saturday as snow continued to melt. Eastern Wyoming will continue to warm into Sunday. The west side of the state will see clouds and snow showers build over the border, the Teton and Wind River Ranges by noon. By the evening, a shallow cold front will push snow showers across the northern Wyoming border into Sheridan. In the early Monday morning hours, moisture north of another frontal boundary centered in Nevada will push moisture into southern Wyoming. This moisture and snow showers will come from northeast Utah and northwest Colorado filling in up to the Medicine Bow Mountains. There will be few, if any, snow showers that make it past this point into Laramie and Cheyenne as they are forecasted to have 1 inch of snow. A Winter Weather Advisory is issued for northeast Wyoming until Monday at 11:00 am.
Winds are more of an issue especially for Sunday afternoon. The Elk Mountain region is the wind prone spot with potential of wind gusts exceeding 40 mph. The surrounding cities of Elk Mountain will reach above 30 mph. These breezy winds will continue Sunday night into Monday morning associated with the close nearby frontal boundaries. The breezy wind prone region will migrate southeast reaching Cheyenne late Sunday. Breezy winds in the southeast section of Wyoming will see breezy winds in the mid 20 mph range Monday afternoon. Two High Wind Watches are issued around Elk Mountain west of I-25 that will expire Monday at 11:00 am.
The Cheyenne extended forecast has a slight chance of snow showers Monday with a breezy weekend and start to the week. After the weather systems pass, a slightly cooler temperature will settle in over the Capital City nearing 40F for the remainder of the week.
