CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The East Thunderbirds put together an amazing football season, making it all the way to the 4A state championship. They wouldn’t have been able to do it without the play of their quarterback Cam Hayes, who was unanimously named to the All-State First Team.

Looking back on the season, he was extremely proud of what the team accomplished.

“It was a special season. We knew we were pretty good going into it. We came up short, but we had a lot of fun and we played a great Sheridan team. It was just awesome to make the state championship and perform the way we did this whole season,” Hayes said.

East went 10-2 this year and earned the number two seed in the playoffs, and Hayes was a crucial part of their high powered offense.

He threw for 2,867 yards on the year, and led the state with a whopping 40 touchdowns and 69.9% completion percentage. However that was just through the air; Hayes rushed for 621 yards and 7 touchdowns as well.

While both of the Thunderbirds losses were at the hands of Sheridan this year, Hayes has all the confidence in the world in his team going into next season.

“I’m very confident. We lost some seniors, but we have a lot of good juniors returning and sophomores that are going to step up. We have some great coaches that are going to put us in a great spot, and I’m very confident with that,” Hayes said.

Congratulations to Cam Hayes on a spectacular season and earning the All-State honors.
