Prep Athlete of the Week: Mia Cardenas, Kelly Walsh
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Just a few weeks ago, Kelly Walsh completed their dominant season by capping it off with the tenth volleyball state championship in school history.
Since the end of their season they’ve had seven signings, the latest coming from middle hitter Mia Cardenas. She will be continuing her volleyball career at Black Hills State, and for her it was never a doubt.
“Honestly it was just Black Hills. Black Hills was always been my dream college, and I’m very glad that I got this chance,” Cardenas said.
Cardenas was a crucial part of a Lady Trojans team that only dropped one match on the entire year, ending with a record of 34-1. By the end of the season she finished with 139 kills through 93 sets in total.
Now that her high school career is over, she encouraged the younger players on the team to relentlessly hone their craft if they want to play at the next level.
“Work hard, don’t give up, and if someone tells you you can’t do something, keep going,” Cardenas said.
Congratulations and best of luck to Mia on her collegiate career.
