Kelly Walsh High School hosts Casper Chill 2022 Powerlifting Competition
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Casper Chill 2022 Powerlifting Competition was held at Kelly Walsh Highschool where lifters included just about everyone ranging from children to adults who competed this past Saturday.
The event was presented by the Roosevelt High School Powerlifting Club, and many different competitors came out to compete including students from different schools in the area as well as different people in the community representing their respective clubs.
As more people gathered together, it’s become evident that powerlifting in general as seen a growth over the past few years. One of the main reasons for this is the atmosphere that surrounds the powerlifting community and the positive energy that its competitors bring.
“I think it is once people experienced this atmosphere, such a positive atmosphere for people to be apart of because everybody cheers for everybody, there’s no negativity, everybody really enjoys is. So I think its really starting to grow, our meets are starting to grow, this meet we have about fifty lifters,” said Bart Stricklin, one of the events coordinators as well as Kelly Walsh’s powerlifting coach.
Although this is a competition, many of these people all have a similar goal in mind, and it isn’t necessarily winning the competition. Many of these lifters want to try and push their own limits, trying to get that new one rep max and lift the most weight they have before. One of the competitors, Jadin Smith, talked about his reason for powerlifting.
“I mean I just love it man. You get under some heavy weight. I love to do hard things you know, and I mean pushing yourself to struggle. You’re not going to hit every weight, but when you hit it there’s nothing more gratifying than that.”
There were three awards handed out at the end of the competition going to the following lifters:
- Best Female Lifter: Shelby Stricklin (Kelly Walsh Powerlifting Team)
- Best Male Teen Lifter: Bryce Boyer (Kelly Walsh Powerlifting Team)
- Best Male Lifter: Andrew Van Lare (Air Force Academy)
