Stem and Geo-Location technologies celebrate Geographic Information Systems day at LCCC

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you’ve ever used google maps or a hunting app., then you have a GIS or Geographic Information System to thank.

Tuesday, Laramie County Community College pathways staff celebrate its connected stem fields with a proclamation.

“What goes ito making a map. Why are these maps so intelligent. What can they tell us, how can i use them to leverage what im doing and make better decisions, whether its planning, whether its architecture, whether its natural resource management. Its really awareness,” said Trent Morrell Stem Pathways Coordinator-LCCC.

LCCC celebrated GIS day Tuesday, Nov. 15th, with an expo and presentation.

Better known as geo-locating technology, “smart maps” analyze and displays location information according to the U.S. Department of the Interior.

According to tech officials, they make our lives easier by giving us correct data for maps, road conditions, animal migration, and lands.

This day will conclude with a documentary and reception at the Surbrugg-Prentice Auditorium with speakers from the u-w school of environment and natural resources at 6 p.m.

“These are the types of equipment and careers that will give our students the opportunity to not only make a living here in Wyoming but to make a life,” says Dr. Michelle Aldridge, City Councilwoman Ward 3.

This celebration is also part of the national geography awareness week.
