CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Natrona is red hot coming into their state semifinal matchup; the Mustangs decimated Campbell County last Friday by a score of 63-6 after similarly defeating Thunder Basin the final week of the regular season. Now they will look to avenge one of their two regular season losses against East.

Coach Steve Harshman said he’s confident that his team is prepared for the test.

“It’s a big challenge. I think it’s an entire team thing. Special teams and offense will play a big part of it as well. [East has] certainly got some of the most explosive players in the state. So we’re working them, learning them, and we’ve got some nice players as well. We’ll match up against them, do our very best, and I feel really good about our guys,” Harshman said.

It will certainly be a new challenge having to travel to Cheyenne for the game this time around. The first meeting was in Casper way back on Sept. 2, but Natrona has had a lot of time to make adjustments from the 33-7 loss.

They’ve shown their growth on the field over the remainder of the season, and they do have several weapons as Harshman said. Quarterback Wyatt Powell has been one of those key players; he has over 1000 yards on the ground this year, and says the team has payback on its mind.

“We’re super motivated coming into this game, especially because of the beating we took last time against these guys. We did not play our best game and we’re hoping to kind of redeem ourselves for that. Super motivated, obviously we want to go to state championships, so that’s motivation in itself,” Powell said.

This rematch kicks off on Friday at 6 p.m.
