Prep Athlete of the Week: Jared Allen, Burns
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Burns and Wheatland played a tightly contested game on Friday, but it was the Broncs who pulled it out 23-21. It’s safe to say that without the play of their quarterback Jared Allen, the result may have been different.
He gave credit to his big men up front for his performance.
“[Wheatland likes] to bring the heat that was for sure. Our O-line definitely stepped it up I’d say compared to the past weeks. We definitely stomped the ball down the field and then held them on defense,” Allen said.
Allen impacted the game in multiple ways; he broke off a couple big runs, he threw for two touchdowns-- including a long 59 yarder in the second half-- but perhaps his biggest play of the game was on special teams.
Burns blocked a punt in the second quarter that Allen returned for a 60 yard touchdown. He said the Broncs were bringing the house for that play and as soon as he got the ball he hit the gas.
“We had the block call called, and I knew they were going. So as soon as I saw it up in there, I went for it. I was kind of worried about the corner coming and getting me, but I just tucked it and followed my guys,” Allen said.
Allen and the Broncs take on a ranked opponent next when they host Big Horn on Friday.
