CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - East took out Central 28-17 on Friday in a top five crosstown matchup, and Drew Jackson was an instrumental part of it.

He was a factor in every aspect of the game, and he said getting the win after a tough loss to Sheridan the week prior puts the team back on track.

“It feels great to bounce back and beat a good team and know that we’re still in a good spot going into the postseason. That’s a big part of that win is we’re going in still probably going to be the 2 seed going into the tournament. So we knew that would be a big win and we’re excited,” Jackson said.

East reestablished themselves as a serious state title contender in this game, and if Jackson continues to put up stat lines like Friday’s they will be near impossible to stop. He had 163 rushing yards and a touchdown with an additional 120 yards and a score catching the ball. The Thunderbirds offense had an impressive 483 yards in total, and Jackson accounted for over half of it.

The stakes were raised even more Friday because of the rivalry game, and he loved the atmosphere from the very start.

“The stands were packed both sides, that was probably the most packed I’ve ever seen that. So it was fun to play in that game and especially to win. That just makes it a whole lot better,” Jackson said.

The Thunderbirds make the short trip to South on Oct. 14 for their next matchup. The game kicks off at 6 p.m.
