CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Once in a while, kids do dumb things, and when they do, sometimes police officers have to get involved.

The Cheyenne Police Department gave us an update on yesterday’s Garrett Street incident and what can happen when parents are away.

On Wednesday night after 9 p.m.,  officers responded to the 19-hundred block of Garrett Street for a reported shooting.

Upon arrival, police heard gunshots pinpointing it to a house.

They entered the premise after repeatedly asking the occupants to exit the building. They located several juveniles inside the house.

Police determined that one of the juveniles found a gun in the house and went into the backyard to fire several rounds into the air.

There is no ongoing threat.

“We live in the state of Wyoming where just about every household has guns. We want to make sure that our parents are doing what they need to make sure their kids are educated about firearms safety, and we also want to make sure that they are locking up their firearms,” says Capt. David Janes, Services Captain, Cheyenne Police Department.

According to Janes, the juvenile told officers he fired a clip and a half into the air.

A 17-year-old male was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment.
