Andrew Lock was perfect all tennis season
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - One of the most dominant sports performances possible happened out of the Cheyenne South tennis team this fall.
South junior Andrew Lock completed an individual state championship season that was literally perfection. What made this championship so special? He didn’t lose a single set-- not just in the state tournament-- but for the entire season.
Lock said he’s already looking to claim back-to-back titles, and wants to see the team bring home some hardware next season as well.
“Next season I’d like to repeat, that would be my all time goal. Then for the team I’d like to maybe place top four, top three, get a trophy in the case again,” Lock said.
Even after that otherworldly run, Lock said he’s focused on getting even better. He highlighted his net game and shot placement as areas he wants to work on moving forward.
His coach Josh Cossitt doubled down on continually improving so there’s no complacency against next year’s competition.
“High school season is tough. You know when you have an elite gap... [we’re] finding things to work on in the season to keep us energized and engaged going forward to it. And we know there will be a target on our back for next year too and that’ll be some motivation, but there’s a big gap and everyone’s gonna be doing a lot of catching up to us,” Cossitt said.
Andrew wasted no time trying to widen that gap even more.
