Asian clams found in Wyoming all water crafts must be checked
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - As we move out of summer and into the fall, outdoor water enthusiasts are not out of the deep end yet.
Wyoming Game and Fish officials want you to check your water crafts before entering waterways or storing your gear.
The Public Information Officer for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department says they have recently identified the presence of Asian lams in the Glendo Reservoir.
This invasive species chokes water systems by consuming too many nutrients from the waterways and killing off native species.
To keep the ecosystem balanced, folks are still required to drain, clean, and dry water crafts. As well as stopping at watercraft checking stations to make sure your boats are clear.
“It shows how easily ais can move in the state, and that’s a concern to us with zebra mussels being identified so close to the Wyoming borders in Pactola reservoir in South Dakota and Highline lake in Colorado just this month,: said Sara DiRienze, Public Information Officer -WGAFD.
Watercraft checking stations will be open until Nov. 1st.
